The Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) is a safe, warm and welcoming space, free of drugs and alcohol. YEP is an activities-based program that provides support and empowerment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth ages of 13 and 23 and their allies to expand personal opportunities, promote equality, and encourage healthy lifestyles by providing enrichment activities. YEP meets every Friday starting at 7pm. All youth are welcome. Enrollment is open on a rolling basis. This program is FREE and confidential.
 
Features of the Youth Empowerment Program include:

• Exploring and understanding the impact of popular media images and news articles on the lives of LGBTQ youth

• Participating in fun and engaging activities such as games, arts projects, and field trips to promote awareness, community support, and activism

• Web based community participation at www.lgbtventura.org

• HIV/AIDS peer education designed for youth and adults to work in partnership to raise awareness and educate other youth about HIV/AIDS, safer behavior choices, and other health related issues

• Educational activities that promote personal growth, and a sense of strength through community, not forgetting to encourage creativity, individuality, and fun along the way

• Fun creative opportunities for community building for LGBTQ youth


Plus:

After-School Drop-In - Offers opportunities for after-school social and recreational peer interaction in a safe environment.

Youth Leadership Council - Develops the leadership potential of LGBT youth by providing opportunities for young people to make a difference in their community.

HIV/AIDS Peer Education - Designed for youth and adults to work in partnership to raise awareness and educate other youth about HIV/AIDS, safe behavior choices and other health related issues.

Alcohol & Other Drug Prevention - Members of the Youth Group actively participate in projects that help reduce youth access to alcohol, reduce driving under the influence incidents and help fight substance abuse in the LGBT community.
